Upon my first week of Journalism class, we learned about the importance of blogging in today’s day and age. It is highly beneficial for organizations, individuals, politicians, and just about anyone in the world to build their brand online, as it is a form of self-expression and branding. In the glamorous world of fashion, blogging has become a predominate trend online, and has created careers for individuals. For instance, Man Repeller is a fashion blog founded by an ordinary city girl named Leandra Medine. Medine was awarded “Top 30 under 30” for being the most influential trendsetter according to Forbes Magazine. Additionally, her blog has become highly recognized worldwide, as she has been featured on notable magazines including Teen Vogue, Fashion Magazine, CNN and various other publications. Leandra is paid to attend different fashion events located around the world, and has established herself as a fashion blogging celebrity. Further, she wrote a novel titled “Seeking Love. Finding Overalls,” which was one of her major accomplishments that stemmed from her blog.
It is important for everyone to embrace this age of technology in order to adapt to this new way of life occurring online. We currently live in an information society, where we as individuals are considered to be both reliable or unreliable sources. We are capable of spreading information by the snap of our fingers, whether communicating through a Tweet, Facebook post, etc. It is highly interesting to note how much our society relies on technology and mass media to gain knowledge about the world around us. My blog in particular will focus on my travels and experiences living abroad in Barcelona, providing information and insider advice valuable when traveling around the world.
